Advantages of laser therapy in vascular surgery

  • State-of-the-art equipment for unprecedented precision
  • High precision due to strong laser beam focusing capability
  • High selectivity – affecting only those tissues that absorb the laser wavelength used
  • Pulse mode operation to protect adjacent tissues from thermal damage
  • The ability to affect tissues without physical contact with the patient’s body improves sterility
  • More patients qualified for this type of procedure as opposed to conventional surgery

Benefits for the patient

  • High procedure effectiveness
  • No hospitalization required (released home on the day of surgery)
  • No incisions or postoperative scars, excellent esthetic result
  • Short procedure duration
  • Possibility to perform the procedure under any type of anesthesia, including local anesthesia
  • Quick recovery and rapid return to daily activities
  • Reduced post-operative pain
  • Minimized risk of vein perforation and carbonization
  • Laser treatment requires much less medication
  • No need to wear compression garments for more than 7 days

Versatile application of SMART M SURGERY in vascular surgery

Endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) is a modern, safe and effective method of treating varicose veins of lower limbs, which has recently become the gold standard for the treatment of lower extremity venous insufficiency. It involves inserting an optical fiber, which emits laser energy peripherally (360º), into the failing vein under ultrasound guidance. By withdrawing the fiber, the laser energy induces an ablation effect from the inside, which causes shrinkage and closure of the vein lumen. After the procedure, only a small mark is left at the puncture site, and the treated vein undergoes fibrosis over a period of several months. The laser can also be used for percutaneous vascular closure and to accelerate healing of wounds and ulcers.

Frequently Asked Questions?

The main advantage of laser treatment is that it is minimally invasive as opposed to traumatic conventional methods. Furthermore, it does not require hospitalization, can be performed in an outpatient setting under local anesthesia, and takes less than 1 hour. After the procedure, the patient does not have any unsightly incisions or scars, resulting in a good cosmetic result.

EVLT does not preclude the use of other techniques. When used simultaneously with modalities such as mini-phlebectomy or sclerotherapy, it can provide far superior treatment for venous insufficiency.

Unlike traditional treatments, the laser technique for treating venous insufficiency can be used even in the elderly. Minimal invasiveness, short procedure duration and tumescent anesthesia mean that the procedure can be safely performed in people of all ages provided there are no personal contraindications.

PHOTOBIOMODULATION is the term used to describe the modulation of biological changes of cells and tissues.

Photobiomodulation offers anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-swelling and stimulatory effects.

The effects of photobiomodulation provide opportunities to apply the therapy in almost every field of medicine. It is used, among other things, in analgesic therapy, wound healing therapy, to accelerate the process of tissue regeneration after musculoskeletal injuries, in rheumatic, neurological, laryngological, and dermatological diseases, as well as in dentistry, esthetic medicine, and sports medicine.
